'Church see off battling Moycarkey

Upperchurch Drombane 1-16 Moycarkey-Borris 0-13 A 1-7 tally from Pat Shortt proved pivotal as Upperchurch Drombane saw off Moycarkey-Borris in the Mid Tipperary senior hutling championship quarter-final at Ragg last Saturday. Shortt's 23rd minute goal helped 'Church into a 1-8 to 0-6 lead at the break, but three quick points after the restart helped helped reduce Moycarkey's arrears somewhat. The winners responded with Padraig Greene and Shortt flying ball over the bar before Kieran Morris, Pa Carey and Phil Kelly cut the lead down to two points with just inder ten minutes remaining. However, the turning point of the game came when Paul Dempsey received his marching orders for Moycarkey after a second caution. From there, Shortt's sixth and seventh white flags were raised and county minor Paul Ryan's appearance of as a substitute paid dividends, as he helped to open a seven-point lead and put the result beyond any doubt for Upperchurch Drombane, who now advance to semi-finals.
