Tipperary's Andrew Morrissey
Tipperary football captain Andrew Morrissey's season is over after he suffered a broken leg at training on Tuesday night.
The Galtee Rovers clubman, who has had more than his fair share of injury problems in the past, didn't start the Munster SFC first round defeat to Limerick, but Premier County boss John Evans confirmed that he would have started Saturday's All-Ireland qualifier against Louth if he had been fit.
"Andrew went for a ball, turned in the air and came down and went over on it," Evans explained.
"It's a devastating blow to lose our captain. He put a huge effort into it this year in fairness to him. He would have started against Louth. He did very well against them at Semple Stadium in the league.
"It's difficult enough to lift the fellas, but we'll have to draw on every bit of experience to lift them out of this now."
Morrissey captained Tipperary to a famous NFL Division 3 final victory over Down earlier this year.
