December 01, 2008
Bruff 1-7
Cappawhite 1-6
Limerick champions Bruff took their place in the Munster club junior football championship final with narrowest of wins over Cappawhite yesterday at Bruff.
After superb first-half, the winners endured a nervy finish to the game where there seven-point lead at the break proved crucial to a one-point victory.
It was Cappawhite that were off the mark first when Jim Carr pointed an early free that gave the Tipperary side the first lead in the game.
However, it was from to half-time that Bruff done their real damage, as they tightened-up at the back and shot some lethal scores up front, the most devastating of which was Tony Burke's goal after 17 minutes that put them into a 1-5 to 0-1 lead at the interval.
Cappa changed things around for the second-half, introducing three substitutes, that included Sean Ryan, who contributed a goal on the third quarter that brought his side right back into contention for the final spot.
Ryan backed up his major with a free that edged Cappa close, but Bruff midfielder John Cooke was quick to cancel-out the effort with his sole point for the evening to distance the opponents by three heading towards the closing stages.
Once again, it was the effective substitute, Ryan, that continued to be a thorn in Bruff's side with another two scores flying over the bar from his trusty boot, but it wasn't to be enough as the Treaty men held out for victory.
