McCarthy adamant Cork will field against Tipp

Gerald McCarthy insists Cork will be participating in next year's National Hurling League, and will field a team for the official switching on of the new floodlights in Semple Stadium on Saturday, February 14.
The Rebels have been chosen to face Tipperary for the glamour second round clash, and under-fire boss McCarthy is determined that such a significant event will not be affected by the ongoing dispute between the Cork county board and players over the St. Finbarr's clubman's reappointment.
"Unquestionably, we will be fulfilling all our games in the league and there are some great games to look forward to," said a defiant McCarthy, who fielded a development squad in last weekend's challenge against a St. Colman's College, Fermoy selection.
Cork open their league campaign on Sunday, February 8, against Anthony Daly's Dublin and six days later they face Tipperary.
"It certainly is one to look forward to and it will be a great honour to be part of such a historic occasion at a ground that I think is dear to every Cork hurling supporter," McCarthy added.
"Thurles and Cork hurling go hand in hand and this will certainly be a very unique and special occasion.
"I think the Cork/Tipp hurling rivalry is second to none and this game will add an extra dimension. It is an occasion that will have very special significance because it will be the first major game under lights in Thurles."
