BY COUNTY PRO ED DONNELLY MUNSTER CLUB SENIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP Tipperary Senior Football champions Galtee Rovers will play the Clare champions Kilmurry-Ibrickane on Sunday next at 2:00pm in Quilty in the Munster Club Senior Football Championship Semi-Final. Michael Collins (Cork) will be the referee. This will be the fourth occasion which Galtee Rovers has taken part in the Munster Club Senior Football Championship and the Bansha men will be looking for their first victory. In 1976, Kilrush Shamrocks (Clare) defeated Galtee Rovers by 1-10 to 2-5. In 1980, Stradbally (Waterford) were the opposition and after a 0-9 to 0-9 draw, Stradbally won the replay by 4-9 to 1-13. Finally in 1981, Kilrush Shamrocks (Clare) were again the opposition and the teams finished level before Kilrush got the better of Galtee Rovers in the replay by 1-6 to 0-3. MUNSTER CLUB SENIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP Commiserations to Toomevara who lost out to Adare (Limerick) by 1-11 to 0-10 in the Munster Club Senior Hurling Championship semi-final on Sunday last. Following this game, Toomevara's record in the Munster Club Championship to date is Played 26, Won 15, Drawn 3 and Lost 8. Adare will now play De La Salle of Waterford in the Munster final on Sunday week, November 30th at 2:00pm in Semple Stadium Thurles. MUNSTER CLUB JUNIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP Hard luck to Emly who lost out to the Kerry Intermediate Hurling champions Kilgarvan by 3-11 to 3-10 on Sunday last at Kenmare in the Munster Club Junior Hurling Championship. MUNSTER CLUB JUNIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP Best wishes to the Tipperary Junior Football champions Cappawhite who take on Eire Og (Cork) in the first round of the Munster Club Junior Football Championship on Sunday next at 2:00pm in Leahy Park Cashel. Tom Lynch (Kerry) will be the referee. The other quarter-final between Ballyduff Upper (Waterford) and Kildysart (Clare) will be refereed by Keith O'Brien (Kilsheelan-Kilcash). COUNTY JUNIOR "B" HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL Moyne-Templetuohy will play Cashel King Cormacs in the rearranged County Junior "B" Hurling Championship Final in Gortnahoe on Saturday next at 2:00pm. Johnny McDonnell (Roscrea) will be the referee. COUNTY JUNIOR "B" FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL Templederry Kenyons will play Carrick Swan in the County Junior "B" Football Championship Final on Sunday next at 2:00pm in Boherlahan. Patsy Ralph (Upperchurch-Drombane) will be the referee. Neither team in Sunday's final has ever captured this title. The first County Junior "B" Football Championship was played in 1995 and to date, the breakdown of titles won by division is as follows - North (5), Mid (4), West (2) and South (2). COUNTY UNDER 21 "C" HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL Congratulations to Sean Treacys who captured the County Under 21 "C" Hurling title on Sunday last thanks to a 2-13 to 2-6 victory over Ballinahinch at Newport. The County Under 21 "C" Hurling competition began in 2000 with the title going back to North Tipperary on four occasions, to the Mid and West on two occasions each while Ballyneale brought the title back to South Tipperary in 2003. COUNTY UNDER 21 "C" HURLING WINNING CAPTAINS The list of winning captains in the County Under 21 "C" Hurling Championship is as follows - 2000 (Ballinahinch - John Paul O'Sullivan), 2001 (Newport - Richard Shinnors), 2002 (Kilruane MacDonaghs - Padraig Doheny), 2003 (Ballyneale - Brian McCarthy), 2004 (Solohead - Philip Doherty), 2005 (Clonakenny - Andrew Crampton), 2006 (Ballinahinch - John Foley), 2007 (Clonakenny - James Cody), 2008 (Sean Treacys - Denis Stapleton). COUNTY UNDER 21 "C" FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP The semi-finals of the County Under 21 "C" Football Championship will take place this weekend. On Saturday, Ballinahinch will play Emly at 2:00pm in Cappawhite while on Sunday, Sean Treacys take on Borrisokane at 12:00pm in Dolla. Extra time will be played if necessary in both semi-finals. WATERFORD CRYSTAL CUP The draws for the Waterford Crystal Senior Hurling Competition and the McGrath Cup Senior Football Competition were made at a meeting of the CCC of the Munster Council on Thursday night. Both competitions will begin on the weekend of January 3rd / 4th. Tipperary will be looking to win the Waterford Crystal Cup for the third consecutive year and will begin the defence of their title on the weekend of January 10th / 11th against the winners of the Preliminary Round game between Waterford and UCC. If Tipperary win their Quarter-Final, they will play CIT, Limerick or UL in the semi-final. MCGRATH CUP Tipperary will begin their McGrath Cup campaign with a date with University College Cork at a Tipperary venue on the weekend of January 10th / 11th in a Quarter-Final clash. If successful, Tipperary will face a semi-final meeting with the winners of Clare and CIT. 2009 MUNSTER UNDER 21 HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP The draws have also been made for the 2009 Munster Under 21 and Minor Hurling and Football Championships. In the Munster Under 21 Hurling Championship, Tipperary have been drawn to play Cork in the first round at Semple Stadium Thurles on June 3rd. The winners will play Waterford in the Munster semi-final on July 15th. 2009 MUNSTER UNDER 21 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP Tipperary has avoided the old firm of Cork or Kerry in the draw for the 2009 Munster Under 21 Football Championship. Tipperary have been given a bye to the semi-final and will play the winner of the first round game between Limerick and Clare on March 21st. 2009 MUNSTER MINOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP Tipperary will play Limerick in the Quarter-Final of the 2009 Munster Minor Hurling Championship on April 29th. If Tipperary are successful, they will play Cork in the semi-final on June 24th. If Tipperary lose to Limerick in the Quarter-Final, the Premier County will play the losers of Waterford or Clare in a Semi-final playoff on May 6th. 2009 MUNSTER MINOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP Tipperary will play Kerry in the first round of the 2009 Munster Minor Football Championship on April 15th. If Tipperary are successful, they will play the winners of the Losers Group playoff. If Tipperary lose to Kerry in the first round, they will play the winners of the first round match between Clare and Waterford. TIPPERARY SENIOR HURLING TEAM HOLIDAY In recognition of the success of the Tipperary Senior Hurlers in 2008, winning the Waterford Crystal Cup, National Hurling League and Munster Final, the team panel will be going on a one week holiday in December to Tenerife. To help to finance this trip, the Tipperary County Board has organised a fundraising Dog Night at Thurles Greyhound Stadium on this coming Saturday evening beginning at 8:00pm. Supporters can support this event by attending on the night or by purchasing a Buster ticket of 20 euro each. MUNSTER COUNCIL AWARDS The Annual AIB Munster Council Awards will be presented a Gala Banquet in the Malton Hotel, Killarney on Saturday December 6th. There will be three Tipperary award recipients on the night. Following his prominent role in helping Tipperary to Munster Final success in 2008, Shane McGrath (Ballinahinch) has been selected as the Munster Hurler of the Year. Mick Frawley (Emly) will be presented with a Special Merit Award in honour of his year's of service to the GAA in many capacities, including Munster Council Chairman. Finally, the Hall of Fame award in hurling will be presented to Tipperary hurling legend Jimmy Doyle (Thurles Sarsfields), winner of six All-Ireland Senior Hurling medals and a member of the Team of the Millennium and Team of the Century. Well done to all concerned. THIRD LEVEL COLLEGES The Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) recently defeated Limerick Institute of Technology (LIT) in the third round of the Third Level Colleges Intermediate Hurling Championship on a scoreline of 2-25 to 2-8. The WIT team included the following players from the Premier County - wing-backs Martin Dunne (Moyle Rovers, scorer of 0-2) and Brian Moroney (Aherlow) and centre-forward Timmy Hammersley (Clonoulty-Rossmore, scorer of 0-12). HARTY CUP Our Ladys Templemore qualified for the Dr. Harty Cup Quarter-Finals last week thanks to a 1-13 to 0-10 victory over Carrigaline Community School. Our Ladys finished as runners-up to reigning champions De La Salle in Group B. In Group D, Thurles CBS qualified for the Quarter-Finals having finished top of their group with St. Caimins finishing as runners up with Nenagh CBS failing to qualify for the knockout stages. COLM BONNAR Best wishes to former Tipperary player and selector Colm Bonnar (Cashel King Cormacs) who has been confirmed as the Wexford Senior Hurling manager for 2009. GAA MUSEUM BLOODY SUNDAY TOUR The GAA Museum continues its run of historical guided tours this month with a special tour exploring the events of Bloody Sunday, a day which holds particular significance for the GAA and Croke Park. Ireland's largest sports stadium is steeped in history and the GAA Museum endeavours to capture all that is unique about GAA headquarters. In memory of the tragic events, the museum will hold commemorative guided tours of the Stadium on Sunday next November 23rd. Three tours will take place throughout the day - 11:30am, 1:30pm and 3:30pm (booked out). Please note that the 3:30pm tour only will include the laying of a special commemorative wreath. The cost of attending these tours is as follows - Adults ?8, Student / Senior ?6, Child ?4, Family ?20. Booking is essential, as places are limited.
