MUNSTER CLUB SENIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP
Tipperary Senior Hurling champions Toomevara will play Adare (Limerick) in the semi-final of the AIB Munster Club Senior Hurling Championship on Sunday next at 2:00pm in the Gaelic Grounds Limerick. Diarmuid Kirwan (Cork) will be the referee. At the same stage of last year's competition, the 2007 Tipperary champions Loughmore-Castleiney defeated Adare by 1-15 to 1-10 at the Gaelic Grounds so Toomevara will be looking for a similar result. Tipperary clubs have dominated this competition since 2004 with the record of the Tipperary Senior Hurling champions in Munster during this period reading as follows - played 11 won 10 lost 1. On the other hand, a Limerick club has not won the Munster Club Senior Hurling title since Kilmallock defeated Toomevara in the 1994 final while Limerick clubs have contested just 2 of the last 13 Munster Club Senior Hurling finals.
MUNSTER CLUB INTERMEDIATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
Clonmel Og lost to Kerry champions St. Michaels Foilmore on a scoreline of 1-10 to 1-5 in the first round of the Munster Club Intermediate Football Championship. This was the third year in succession that the Tipperary Intermediate Football champions have been knocked out by a Kerry club.
MUNSTER JUNIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP
Emly will represent Tipperary in the Munster Club Junior Hurling Championship beginning on Sunday next when they travel to Kenmare to play the Kerry Intermediate champions Kilgarvan at 2:00pm. Colm Lyons (Cork) will be the referee. This is a first round match but with Clare pulling out of the competition, the winners of this game will get a semi-final bye. Emly will look to keep this title in Munster following the victory of Moyle Rovers in the 2007 Munster Club Junior Hurling Final.
COUNTY JUNIOR "B" HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL
Moyne-Templetuohy will play Cashel King Cormacs in the rearranged County Junior "B" Hurling Championship Final in Gortnahoe on Saturday week November 22nd. Last Saturday's original fixture could not take place due to a waterlogged pitch in Gortnahoe.
COUNTY JUNIOR "A" FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL
Congratulations to Cappawhite who captured their second ever County Junior "A" Football title on Sunday last at Dr. Morris Park thanks to a 2-7 to 1-9 victory over Moycarkey-Borris. Cappawhite will now play Eire Og (Cork) in the first round of the Munster Club Junior Football Championship in Leahy Park Cashel at 2:00pm on Sunday November 23rd.
COUNTY JUNIOR "B" FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
The semi-finals of the County Junior "B" Football Championship take place this weekend. On Saturday in Drombane, Templederry Kenyons play Arravale Rovers while on Sunday in Fethard, Upperchurch-Drombane take on Carrick Swan. Both matches have a throw-in time of 2:30pm.
COUNTY UNDER 21 "C" HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL
Ballinahinch take on Sean Treacys in the County Under 21 "C" Hurling Championship Final on Sunday next at 12:00pm in Newport. Ballinahinch are looking for their third title in this grade following success in 2000 and 2006 while Sean Treacys are looking for their first title at this level having previously won the County Under 21 "B" title in 1990 in a combination with Aherlow.
COUNTY MINOR "B" HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL REPLAY
Shannon Rovers Gaels won their first ever County title on Sunday last at Toomevara thanks to a 1-13 to 0-14 victory over Drom & Inch after extra time in the County Minor "B" Hurling Championship Final Replay.
COUNTY MINOR "A" FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL
Congratulations to Moyle Rovers who won their second County Minor "A" Football title on Saturday thanks to a 0-9 to 0-8 victory over 2007 champions Arravale Rovers.
REFEREES
Derek O'Mahony (Ardfinnan) will take charge of the Munster Club Intermediate Football Championship Semi-Final between St. Michaels, Foilmore (Kerry) and Tramore (Waterford) on Sunday next. Meanwhile, in the Munster Club Junior Hurling Championship, Tommy Ryan (Kildangan) will referee the game between Dripsey (Cork) and Mondeligo (Waterford).
TIPPERARY GAA MEMBERS DRAW 2008/2009
The Moyle Rovers GAA club hosted the Tipperary GAA Members Draw for November on Friday evening last at the Half Way Inn, Rathronan. Maurice Keane from the Clonmel Og club won a car or ?15,000 while Donal and Siobhain O'Neill from the Cappawhite club won a car or ?12,000. The Moycarkey-Borris GAA club won the set of jerseys while there were five winners of the Lotto jackpot of 5,000 euro. A full list of the winners on the night can be found elsewhere on this week's paper.
TIPPERARY SENIOR HURLING TEAM HOLIDAY
In recognition of the success of the Tipperary Senior Hurlers in 2008, winning the Waterford Crystal Cup, National Hurling League and Munster Final, the team panel will be going on a one week holiday in December to Tenerife. To help to finance this trip, the Tipperary County Board has organised a fundraising Dog Night at Thurles Greyhound Stadium on Saturday November 22nd beginning at 8:00pm. Supporters can support this event by attending on the night or by purchasing a Buster ticket of 20 euro each. Tickets have been distributed amongst each club in the County and will also be available via any of the Tipperary County Board officers.
ANNUAL COUNTY CONVENTION
The 2008 Annual County Convention will take place on Sunday, December 14th in the Thurles Sarsfields Social Centre. Clubs are asked to note that the closing date for Nominations and Motions is next Sunday, November 16th. The full list of officer positions eligible for nomination at Convention is as follows - Chairperson; Vice-Chairperson; Assistant-Secretary (New Position), Treasurer; Assistant Treasurer, Development Officer, County Coaching Officer, Officer for Irish Language and Culture; Youth Officer; Public Relations Officer; Representative on Central Council; Two Representatives on Provincial Council.
COUNTY BOARD MEETING
The next meeting of the Tipperary County Board will be held at the Sarsfields Social Centre, Thurles on Tuesday next, November 18th at 8:00pm. The agenda and the minutes of the last meeting will be sent via e-mail to all clubs in advance. All clubs are asked to ensure their delegates receive this information prior to the meeting.
COUNTY SCOR AGM
The Annual General Meeting of County Scór was held recently at Lár na Páirce, Thurles. Delegates from the North, Mid and South divisions attended. The officers elected for the coming year were Seamus McGrath (Newcastle) as Chairperson, Mary Bourke (Borris-Ileigh) as Secretary and Dan Madden (Templederry Kenyons) as Treasurer.
In his Chairperson's address, Seamus McGrath thanked everyone for attending the meeting especially the newcomers Andy Ryan (County Youth Officer) and Marie McLoughlin who is the newly elected secretary of the Mid Scór Committee. Seamus thanked the committee for their hard work throughout the year. The Secretary thanked the officers and committee for their support and help throughout the year. She thanked County Board Secretary Tim Floyd for his support of Scór and Ed Donnelly for his excellent reporting on Scór matters. She also commented on the significant appointment of Noel Joyce as Cultural Officer to the County Board as Noel will do his utmost to encourage and promote Scór throughout the County.
The launch of the book "40 years of Scór in County Tipperary" will be priority for the committee in the coming weeks. The launch will be early next year as 2009 will mark forty years of Scór's existence in the country. Tim Floyd suggested that this launch might be included in the GAA's list of events for its 125th anniversary which also occurs in 2009. Votes of sympathy were expressed on the deaths of Margaret O'Connell Moycarkey, a former secretary of Mid Scór and Michael McGrath, Loughmore R.I.P. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a nanamacha. A speedy recovery was wished to Seán Fogarty (Moyne-Templetuohy).
The County Scór committee are looking forward to the Scór season 2008/2009. It is hoped that clubs will be positive in their approach to Scór, that they will celebrate with us the 40th anniversary of its foundation and hopefully will participate or encourage those around them to take part in Scór na nÓg or Scór Sinsear or Scór na bPáistí. SCOR NA NOG DATES
The Mid Final of Scór na nOg will take place on November 28th in Ballycahill. The North Final of Scór na nÓg will take place on December 6th in Templederry. The County Final of Scór na nÓg will take place on December 12th in Halla na Feile Cashel.
WILLIAM HILL IRISH SPORTS BOOK OF THE YEAR
The contenders for this year's William Hill Irish Sports Book of the Year Award were announced last week. There are 23 books in this year's long list for award with the winner being announced in early December. There are a number of GAA books nominated for this award including Final Whistle - The Paddy Russell Story by Paddy Russell with Jackie Cahill; Three Kings - The Battle for Hurling Supremacy by Ralph Riegel; Hurling - The Warrior Game by Diarmuid O'Flynn; Dick Fitzgerald: King in a Kingdom of Kings by Tom Looney and The Best of the West - GAA greats of Connacht by John Scally. This year the public will also get a chance to have their say in the award. You can vote for your favourite book on www.irishsportsbookoftheyear.com. The book that receives the highest number of public votes will be the public choice and it will be added to the votes of the eleven judges in determining the William Hill Irish Sports Book of the Year for 2008.
GAA HISTORY PROJECT
The official launch of the GAA History Project will take place on this Wednesday, November 12th at 11:00am in Croke Park. In September 2008, a four year research project began which will trace the history of the GAA through the memories of its members. It is a partnership between the GAA and Boston College, its basic aim is to run a community based public history project, to celebrate 125 years of the GAA by collecting, preserving and embracing the communal past of the Association. The facilitators will engage with local clubs and members to consider the ways in which the GAA has influenced their lives. This project will be the biggest public history of its kind ever undertaken in Ireland and it is a major commitment by the GAA to record its past and pave the way for the future
WEXFORD SENIOR FOOTBALL FINAL
Kilanerin defeated Gusserane by 1-12 to 0-12 in the Wexford Senior Football Final recently. Mattie Forde scored ten points for Kilanerin while Brian Dignam (former Grangemockler and Ballyneale player) also lined out for the new Wexford champions. Brian is a Garda based in Gorey.
