Britain's most famous vicar Richard Coles has become a GAA member after being introduced to gaelic football through the TV series Normal People.

Upon seeing the GAA scene in episode 1 of the BBC drama based on the 2018 award-winning novel by Irish author Sally Rooney, Reverend Coles asked his Twitter followers "what’s the game they play, it’s like rugby but with more bouncing?"

Reverend Coles, who is also a BBC presenter and musician, was clearly fascinated by Connell's (played by former Kildare minor football captain Paul Mescal) mazy runs up field and went on to say "I think gaelic football is going to be my next thing."

Due to his family connections in Cork, Reverend Coles picked the Rebel County and city club St Finbarr's as his GAA teams to follow. St Finbarr's responded to the Reverend's tweet of support for The Barr's by sending him a 2020 club membership card!
