Two-time All-Ireland winner Jamesie O'Connor has tipped Clare to topple Tipperary in this Sunday's Munster SHC tie in Thurles.

The Banner men are 13/8 underdogs to hand Michael Ryan's team their second defeat of the summer campaign this weekend and O'Connor - who earned his Celtic Crosses with Clare in 1995 and 1997 - believes it's "a massive chance" for this group to lay down a marker in the championship.

"I think this is a huge chance for Clare to win. Clare are coming into this game fresh and rested from a weekend off and surely they will have more energy on a wide field like Thurles than their opponents," he wrote in his column for Sky Sports.

"This would be a massive chance for them to make a statement in the 2018 championship and I think they can beat Tipperary and move on from here.

"They are younger, they might have more legs after the schedule Tipp have just put down and, with the likes of Colm Galvin, Conor McGrath, Tony Kelly and John Conlon, I think they can inflict serious damage on Tipp.

"I just have a feeling they will beat them on Sunday."
