Geevagh shows community spirit
August 21, 2008
The people of Geevagh can be proud of their efforts over the last week or so as the clean up work has begun following the damage caused to the community hall and sports pitch.
Torrential rain forced clay and peat down hillside and onto the pitch and into the hall. In total, there was about two foot of sludge covering half the pitch and the ground floor of the building.
A number of locals and professional contractors were called into the scene and work began straight away and the prognosis is good, although it is yet unknown if the pitch can be saved.
This was a cruel blow to the community as this is only a new development and an official opening date had been planned for the near future.
