Galvin praises players

August 07, 2008
After watching his side make history on Sunday afternoon, Sligo hurling manager Mick Galvin was in a prideful mood when his side lifted the Nicky Rackard Cup for the first time at Croke Park. Galvin lumped the praise on his players after the win over Louth, also stating that the amount of talent in the Yeats County is probably more than it has ever been for the game of hurling. "It was a huge effort by all involved. I suppose what I brought in was a bit of structure and a strict training programme, but it's really all about the players. We were maybe the fitter team on Sunday, which is a big help, but I think it's fair to say we were also the more skilful team. There is tremendous talent in the county now, better probably then ever before, and the challenge now is to build on that," says Galvin. Galvin took the position a mere four months ago and was happily-surprised with the way in which his side dealt with the 'big game' atmosphere on the day. "People are talking about hurling now, which is terrific. There were a lot of young people at the game, and they will be inspired now to get involved. It's also a great boost for the people who have worked tirelessly for so many years to keep the game alive here. "It's a proud day for all of us, a great day for the county, and hopefully we can build on this into the future," added the Sligo boss.
