Gilmartin relishing decider

July 31, 2008
Sligo ace forward Michael Gilmartin will be hoping that Sligo hurlers can make history this weekend and bring the Nicky Rackard Cup back to the Yeats County. Mickey Galvin's side face a stern task in form of Louth, but Gilmartin admits that this is something that him and his team-mates have been looking forward to since they were toddlers with hurleys in their hands. "It will be very special for me to play at Croke Park with some of the lads I have grown up playing hurling with. We have been dreaming about this since we were on the Under-eight team together." The Carly clubman has no doubts in his mind about the ability his team posses and would love to see his native county progress the same way neighbours may have in recent years. "We definitely have what it takes to win. Louth will be tough opponents but if we play to the best of our ability on the day I'm certain that we can win. We have a great team," says Gilmartin. "Over the next few years I would love to see Sligo playing in the Christy Ring Championship and to progress the way Mayo have recently." Sligo face Louth this Sunday, August 3, in the Nicky Rackard Cup final with a throw-in time of 12.00pm scheduled at Croke Park.
