Ballymote club notes

08 May 2008

Our Senior team had a good win over league leaders Tourlestrane on Saturday evening last in Ballymote. In contrast to last week we were slow to start and in the early stages Tourlestrane held a four points to one lead. With ten minutes to go to the break the visitors still led by three points on a scoreline of six points to three. At this stage a purple patch for Ballymote saw them score six consecutive points to reverse the score before Tourlestrane scored the last point of the half leaving the half-time score at Ballymote 0-9, Tourlestrane 0-7.

The second half started well for Ballymote and points from McTernan and Lyons saw the lead stretch to four points before an incisive run from Tourlestrane’s number ten ended with the ball in the back of the Ballymote net and the lead reduced to the minimum. Credit to Ballymote the response was quick and straight from the kick out the home team attacked and Peter Lyons drove the ball over from twenty yards.

Munds was dominating for Ballymote around the middle and soon a speculative ball forward was finished to the Tourlestrane net by Dermot McTernan to leave the lead at five points. Another Ballymote goal, this time by Stephen Ross and a further point had the home team looking comfortable with a nine point lead. However Tourlestrane fought on and scored a goal and three points to leave just three points between the teams at the final whistle. Final Score; Ballymote 2-13, Tourlestrane 2-10.
