Sligo under-21 manager Paul Taylor has played down the significance of their win over Donegal in the Northwest Cup.

The Connacht side recorded a six-point victory over the Ulster side in their own backyard at Letterkenny.

Defeating the Northwest U-21 Cup holders is a massive confidence boost for Taylor's charges and although the former county star admitted to the Sligo Champion that it was a great win, there was no point in getting carried away at this time of the year.

"It's great to get a win like this early in the year, you'd have to say you would be happy, any team that goes to Donegal and gets a win would be happy enough. So we're delighted with that," said Taylor.

"From our point of view though, it's very early in the year. Donegal are starting out their campaign and so are we. Of course, it's always nice to get a win at the start but at the same time, we know we've a lot to do."
