Enniscrone Surf and Turf returns

October 24, 2016

The Enniscrone Surf and Turf run is back again for 2016 - and promises to be bigger and better than ever.

The event, now in its third year, has thrilled hundreds of participants in recent years as competitors compete over the 5-kilometre route for the right to take home the John P Hannon Memorial Cup.

This year's run takes place on Saturday, October 29th, giving everyone an opportunity to get the October bank holiday weekend off to the perfect start.

Those taking part will have to endure all sorts of underfoot conditions, obstacles and elements over the course of the scenic route, but above all it will guarantee you a great challenge and plenty of fun in Enniscrone.

Our scenic route, which takes in the townlands of Quigabar and Lacken, has been extremely well received by participants over the past two years as breath-taking views of the Atlantic Ocean meet our runners as they make their way to the shoreline.

From there, underfoot conditions become somewhat difficult as boggy and marshy fields meet competitors with obstacles from bog pools to streams and everything else in between helping to make the dash for the finish line even more interesting!

Above all, however, fun is at the centre of our run and we assure all those taking part that the route, while challenging, is very negotiable and with plenty of helpers along the way, everyone is guaranteed to make it to the finish line.

In addition, for our younger competitors aged between 14 and 16, there is a three-kilometre route which will incorporate much of the same rough and tumble as the main course.

The entry fees are modest at €20 for adults and €10 for youths, and we can guarantee everyone this represents very good value for your money!

Our starting and finishing point is the home of Enniscrone/Kilglass GAA club in Quigabar (link attached in email) and registration is available on the morning of the event from 10.30am, with the starting gun sounded at 12pm.

There are great prizes up for grabs in each category (Mens, Ladies and Youths) with a €500 pot which will be distributed in the form of sports vouchers among the winners in each section on the day, with the overall winner capturing the John P Hannon Memorial Cup.

There will also be a team of photographers lining the route to capture all the best moments of your run, with shower and changing room facilities, as well as much needed refreshments, available for everyone after the race at the Enniscrone/Kilglass GAA club grounds.

For any queries or for further details in the lead in to the event, you can find us at the following platforms - Facebook: Enniscrone Surf and Turf; Twitter: @surfandturf2016; email: [email protected].

For now, we look forward to preparing for the event, and welcoming those from near and far to Enniscrone on October 29th for another memorable day!
