St. Mary's Club Notes

May 14, 2012
Senior: St. Mary's travelled to take on Easkey last Sunday afternoon in the seventh round of the Division 1 League. In a match played in gale force winds, it was a game of two halves with neither side registering a score against the wind. However, it was the visitors that proved more profitable with the wind, going on to win on a scoreline of St. Mary's 2-10 Easkey 1- 7. A speedy recovery is wished to Easkey player, Emmett Lindsay, who suffered a serious injury in the closing minutes of the match. The Seniors turn their attention to the Senior Championship which commences this Sunday afternoon against a well drilled Shamrock Gaels side in Bunninadden (Throw-in 2.30pm). We ask all Club Members to come out and support the team. Training for all panel members continues this week on Tuesday and Thursday at 7.00pm. It is vital that all players attend.

Junior: In the past fortnight the Junior team has had comprehensive victories at home to both Tourlestrane and Castleconnor with Chris Kelly in particular excelling on his return to Gaelic football. Training for all Junior panel members takes place on Wednesdays. Players will be notified by text.

Senior/Junior Membership: Membership for Senior and Junior players is now due. All players must complete the club registration form and forward payment by May 31st. It is the responsibility of each player to ensure they complete this process.

Saturday Morning Coaching 2012: The Saturday Morning Coaching Programme for 2012 continues each Saturday from 10:45am to 12:00pm. The programme provides high quality Gaelic Football coaching for girls and boys aged between 5 (on 1 April 2012) and 12 years of age. We look forward to seeing new and old members return for another fun season. For further information on the programme please contact Gerry Connolly on 086-2545529. Please note there will be no Saturday Morning Coaching on Saturday June 2nd due to the Clifford Cup taking place.

Minor: In the last fortnight, the Minors had a comprehensive win over Tourlestrane in their final league match. We have qualified for the A League Final which is provisionally fixed for this Thursday evening. This may be subject to change. Keep an eye on the Sligo GAA website for possible fixture change.

U-16: Next Monday our U-16 team will take on either St. John's or Calry/St. Joseph's in the A league final. This would be our third U-16 league title in a row to add to the two double- winning years of 2011 and 2010. We would ask for as many supporters to come out and get behind the team as the league is very competitive this year. Details of the venue and time can be found on the Sligo GAA website.

U-14: In the past fortnight the A League side had a comprehensive win away to Coolera/ Strandhill. The A League team host Tubbercurry this Friday evening with a 7.00pm Throw in. Last Friday night, the C League team travelled to St. Michael's to take on the home side losing out by nine points. The C League team host Enniscrone/Kilglass on Tuesday May 15th

U-12: Both sides lost out to Coolera/Strandhill despite putting in very spirited performances.
We travel to Tourlestrane to take on the home side next Tuesday evening (Throw-in 7.00pm).

Clifford Cup: Our 5th annual Clifford Cup competition will take place as usual this year on the June Bank holiday weekend. Eight U-12 clubs from all Connacht counties as well as teams from Fermanagh and Donegal will compete for this prestigious cup on Saturday June 2nd. As a result the Saturday morning coaching for our 5 to 12 year olds will not take place on
that morning. All club volunteers will be required to help out on the day so as to ensure the smooth running of this event

Summerhill College: Well done to the Summerhill Juvenile football team who won the Connacht A Championship Final last Thursday beating St. Jarlath's of Tuam after extra time.
In doing so they completed the double having won the league title earlier in the year. No fewer than 10 players from our club were members of the Summerhill panel with 7 getting game time on the day. The players winning their Connacht medals were Stephen Henry, Gerard O'Kelly Lynch, Jack Keegan, Dylan Kilgallon, Nathan Rooney, Luke Nicholson, Liam Henry, Conan O'Donnell, Hadi Mousa and Kyle Harrigan.

Scór: St. Mary's will honour their recently crowned All Ireland Scór winner Niamh Ni Fhearghail in the clubhouse at 9pm on Friday next 18th May. Niamh Farrell won the Solo singing event in Scór in Killarney recently and the County Scór Committee will also be present with other guests from organisations with whom Niamh has been associated over recent years. She is a credit to her family and parents Peter and Margot who have promoted Scór in the club and county over many years. All club members and visitors are welcome along to the function to hear a rendition of her winning songs.

Jersey Recycling: Anyone with juvenile club jerseys which no longer fit your child is encouraged to bring them along to Kent Park on Saturday morning coaching for recycling.
Many of these jerseys are in excellent condition and would be well appreciated by the next wave of up and coming footballers.

Pitch-side Signage: Anybody interested in advertising their business on our pitch-side signage please contact Ultan Smith on 086 2587389. The pitch-side signage provides a great opportunity for local businesses to advertise their business in the community at an affordable price.

Pitch: The main pitch is closed until further notice. For all future use, team managers are to contact Cathal O'Donnell.

Congratulations: Well done to St. Mary's player, Rory Mahon, who recently competed in the Belfast marathon.
