May 10, 2012
Calry GAA club was plunged into grief by the sudden death of Shane Gilroy (25).
Shane was extremely well known in local sporting circles, representing the Calry club in both football and hurling as well as playing soccer for Calry Bohemians.
He was a brother of former Sligo Rovers midfielder Keith Gilroy, who is currently on the coaching staff at Derby County.
A graduate of Sligo IT, Shane was a staunch supporter of Sligo Rovers, the Sligo GAA team and Liverpool FC. He represented Calry GAA club at underage and junior levels and club chairman Eddie McHale commented in The Sligo Champion:
"My heart goes out to the family; they are the salt of the earth. He was a credit to his parents, his family and our club. You could walk the length and breadth of the country and you wouldn't meet a nicer lad."
