Ross Donovan insists Sligo won't be taking anything for granted in tonight's Connacht SFC opener against New York.

The Sligo captain, who played in the Yeats County's win in Gaelic Park five years ago, warned: "This trip to New York is exciting but it is a championship game and we can't look past it. A lot of us were there in 2007 and we know that if you get caught up in the hype you are only codding yourself. New York are there to put an effort in and do a job."

The experienced defender is hoping Sligo can mount a serious challenge for the Nestor Cup after last year's disastrous championship showing.

"Galway and Mayo are the only teams anyone talks about. Already it's a Galway v Mayo final, but we can't do anything about that. We're used to that talk and every now and again we like to rattle their cage. We have to get over New York and then focus on the next game."
