Intermediate:
We made the short journey to Quigabar on Saturday evening for the 6th
round game v Enniscrone. We played against the elements in the first
half and like all games this year we were very slow to get going, down
3 points after 4 minutes. We worked our way back into the game to
equalise but Enniscrone scored a good goal and followed it up with
three points in as many minutes before the break to have a healthy
lead of 1-8 v 0-3. We got the first score of the second half but the
home team scored a goal after a defensive slip to leave the gap
between the teams at 10pts with 20 minutes remaining. Despite not
letting the home team score for the rest of the half this was too big
a deficit to bridge and we lost 2-8 v 0-8. Team: Anthony Kilcullen,
Brendan Howley, David Carrabine, Ronan Keane, Martin Foody, Patrick
Naughton(0-2), David Fox, Paul Kilcullen(0-1), Rory Healy, Tom Cawley
(0-1), Alan Cawley, John McDonnell, Brian Howley, Stevie Kilgallon,
Niall Judge(0-4). Subs: Keith Earlis, Paul Sweeney, Ronan Carrabine
Minor League:
The team have their final game in the league when Curry visit Corballa
on Thursday evening for a 7pm throw in. The team have already reached
the league semi finals.
U16
The team had two games this week, both high scoring affairs however we
came out the wrong side of the scoreline on both occasions. On Tuesday
evening we had St.Farnans as visitors where our poor play in the first
half meant we had to big a task but the team showed good spirit and
narrowed the gap to lose 4-12 v 4-5. In the second game of the week we
played Enniscrone and three sloppy goals were the downfall of the team
losing 5-12 v 5-5.
U14
The team had a bye week this week but this week will have St.Johns to
Corballa on Friday evening at 7pm. The team will be training this Tue
evening.
Division 4:
The division 4 team had their second outing of the year when St.Johns
were visitors on Friday evening. The teams were even for the first 10
minutes but a Paul Sweeney goal was followed by a brace of goals five
minutes later from Patrick Cleary and Eoin Flynn meant we lead at the
break 3-3 v 0-3. We started the second half very strongly with
substitute Ciarán Kilcullen scoring three good points to extend the
lead further. There was a few hairy moments but a goal from Junior
Healy and points from John Cullen, Darragh Gilmartin and Eoin Flynn
saw the team finish comfortably winning 4-12 v 2-6. Team: Arthur
Beardshall, Alan Naughton, Kieran Naughton, Ronan Carrabine, Eoin
Kent, Frank Barrett, John Cullen, Rory Healy, Stevie Curley, Eoin
Flynn, Vincent Howley, Patrick Cleary, Paul Sweeney, Ciarán Kilcullen,
Shane Feeney, Darragh Gilmartin, Conor Judge, Michael Jones, Ultan
McGranahan. The team have a home game versus Drumcliffe next Saturday
evening at home.
Hurling
County hurling GPO Benny Kenny will visit the club on Wednesday
evening to hold two coaching sessions. From 6:30-7:30 the U9 hurlers
will take to the field and from 7:30 all other underage hurlers will
be under Bennys tutelage. It is hoped that all hurlers make an
appearance on the night.
U6/8/10
The youngest club stars were out in force training last Friday evening
under the watchful eyes of their coaches. On Monday evening St.Farnans
came and we had two very good games and lots of great performances
from all our players were on view for all the see. Thanks to all the
parents who attended and the coaches whose work was evident for all
the see.
Retirement Function:
On May 4th there will be a retirement function for Tony Keane who
retired in February. Tony worked in Corballa NS all 36 years of his
career and saw many footballers go through. In fact Tony was
instrumental in the inaugural Mickey Kearins tournament for national
schools in 1981 in the west Sligo region. A competition that he
coached many teams through the years to win including the first two
years of the competition. Tony also played for Castleconnor GAA as
well as being a member of the Ballina Town soccer senior team. The
retirement function is also taking the form of a school reunion so why
not come back and see how everyone got on whilst wishing Tony all the
best. Tickets are available from Lorna Winters and Mary Boland or
members of the school board of management.
Sponsored Walk
The postponed Bord na nÓg sponsored walk will now take place on May
bank holiday weekend on Bartra strand. Children will be looking for
sponsorship in the coming weeks.
