FL3: Late McCann winner stuns Sligo
February 06, 2012
A late, late winner from Tomas McCann deep into injury time secured a one point victory over an unfortunate Sligo side at Casement Park on Saturday evening.
Antrim 0-13
Sligo 0-12
With the aid of the wind, 'Baker' Bradley's Saffrons were ahead by the minimum at the break - 0-6 to 0-5. It looked as if it would be all square at half time but a well struck '45 from McCann gave his side the advantage.
The visitors got the best of starts after the resumption and raced into a two point lead - 0-8 to 0-6, with three points without answer.
Antrim fought back to get back on level terms. It was nip and tuck for the final quarter as both sides traded points and were level on numerous occasions.
It looked as if a share of the spoils would be the outcome when Sligo's Colm McGee levelled it from a difficult free to make it 12 a piece.
With the clock ticking, a foul committed by corner back Charlie Harrison after 74 minutes of play gifted Antrim a free from 45-50 yards out. Man of the Match, McCann who had been tremendous throughout made no mistake to score the match winner.
