Sligo's Eamonn O'Hara
Eamonn O'Hara admits that he struggled to overcome his career-threatening knee injury.

The talismanic Sligo footballer has recovered from damaging the cruciate ligament in his right knee in a club match last summer - having suffered a similar injury in his left knee in 2005 - and he admits that this time it was touch and go:

"There were times when I wondered if it was worth the effort," he says in the Sligo Champion. "There were good days and bad days.

"Some days, everything would be fine and there would be no pain. Other times, I would wake up in the morning and the pain would be horrendous and the knee would be swollen.

"I'm not the sort of person who likes to give in but, if I'm honest, there were times when I wondered if I could really be bothered.

"I just thought even if I can't get back playing with the club or the county, surely I want to be able to go down to the beach or the park and kick a ball around.

"That was the motivation - just take it step by step but get there somehow."
