FBD League: IT Sligo shade it

January 22, 2012
IT Sligo came out on top by 2-4 to 0-9 against NUIG at Ballinode on Saturday.

The Sligo outfit finished their FBD League campaign on a high as they prepare for the Sigerson Cup and they will be the happy with the manner of their victory.

Galway native Danny Cummins hit two goals in the first half to give his side a 2-1 to 0-5 interval lead, but despite playing with a strong breeze in the second half, IT Sligo could not shake off their opponents.

Indeed, the Sligo outfit did not score for 22 minutes of the second half and looked to be heading for a defeat before Cavan duo David Givney and Eugene Keating pointed.

NUIG, who are already in the final could have drawn the match when they were awarded a close in free, but the opportunity was lost when one of their players retaliated and from the resultant throw up, the ball was cleared.
