Walsh delighted as Sligo seize the moment

Sligo manager Kevin Walsh
Kevin Walsh was full of praise for his young Sligo team following their All-Ireland JFC final victory over Kerry on Saturday.

Under 21 star David Maye scored 0-8 as the Yeats County lifted their first national title in 75 years at Pearse Stadium.

"Any time you get to any final, it is a big day. And life is full of regrets if you lose them - it isn't often you get the chance to do it," a delighted Walsh said.

"The boys put everything into it. Even at the end they finished even stronger even though Kerry were chasing the game and that was refreshing to see. You get these days and you try to build on them. It is a big step in becoming a more serious team so hopefully today will bring that on too and bring a bit of confidence in the county."

The Sligo manager singled free-taker Maye out for special praise.

"It's great to see the likes of David Maye kicking the ball off the ground, not many can do that on dirty days anymore.

"It is a great skill to have, particularly in an All-Ireland final. It will be a big thing for him going forward in relation to his own development and confidence," he added.
