Sligo ref banned

August 04, 2010
A leading referee in Sligo has been handed a four-week ban for verbally abusing a fellow referee after a recent club game.

Des Henry was issued with the suspension by the Sligo Competitions Control Committee for verbal abuse towards Eamonn McHale, who had been refereeing an underage game. McHale is a relative newcomer to refereeing and Henry is understood to have been unhappy with his handling of the game.

Henry is involved with the underage section of his adopted club Drumcliffe/Rosses Point, being a native of Tubbercurry. He is regarded as one of the top football referees in the Yeats County, and took charge of the Sligo SFL final between Tourlestrane and Eastern Harps in 2008.
