Intermediate
The Intermediate Team got the year off to a flying start on Saturday last as they came out as winners after a hard fought win at home to local rivals Castleconnor in the opening round of the Kiernan Cup warm up league. Easkey got off to the better start and went into an early lead immediately after the throw in, a lead they never let slip for the remainder of the game. Both teams exchanged points before Michael Kelly sent Padraic Cawley through for goal who calmly put the ball into the Castleconnor net. Castleconnor scored a well worked goal of their own shortly after to keep in touch with the home team, but it was Easkey who went into the break with a two point advantage on a scoreline of 1-4 to 1-2.
Much like the the start of the first half, it was Easkey who started the better in the second half with two early points courtesy of Michael Rolston and Brendan McGrath to give the Blues a 4 point lead. However, Easkey could only manage to score one more point for the remainder of the game and had to fight hard late on as Castleconnor slowly started making a comeback. Easkey held on and had two points to spare over the visitors at the end of the game to get their season off to a winning start on a scoreline of Easkey 1-7 Castleconnor 1-5.

Round 2 of the competition sees Easkey travel to Shamrock Gaels on Saturday next, 27 February at 4pm.
Minor
The Minor match between Easkey and Bunninadden/Ballymote that was due to be played on Sunday last was postponed due to the pitch being unplayable. The Minor Team will play at home to Coolaney/Mullinabreena in Round 2 of the league on Sunday next 28 February at 11 am.
