U21: Mayo to meet Sligo in Connacht final

March 22, 2009
Mayo and Sligo will compete for the Cadbury Connacht under-21 football title this year following wins over Roscommon and Leitrim respectively at the weekend. Mayo needed extra time to see off the challenge of Roscommon (4-14 to 2-15) on Saturday afternoon with two goals each from Niall Douglas and Jason Doherty paving the way for the victory. Roscommon, to their credit battled all the way and goals from Fintan Cregg and David O'Gara helped them close the gap, but Mayo finished the stronger to book their place in the final. In the other semi final, Sligo stepped up a gear in the second half to progress to the decider at the expense of a Leitrim side that will be disappointed with the way that they fell apart as they only managed a point in the final 30 minutes. The score finished 0-12 to 0-4.
