Intermediate Team News Intermediate: The final game of the season was played in slippery conditions at home against neighbouring team Ballisodare. It was the game that would determine which of the teams would be relegated to Junior status next year. As it was St. Pats pulled an impressive win, with 2-9 to 0-4 being the final score. Half-back Gary Boland took Pats first score, an absolute bullet which ricocheted over the crossbar. Another man lined out beside him at half-back, Augustine Clarke, skilfully guided the ball past the goalkeeper after good interlinking with Mark Boland. Ballisodare pulled two back, before Donal Finneran took his score well, after excellent play from Paul Kelly and Patrick Farrell. Augustine Clarke kicked over two frees within five minutes after fouls on Mark Boland and Patrick Farrell. This last free left the half-time score at 1-4 to 0-2. Mark Boland started the second half well with an excellent 45 against tough conditions. Corner-back Enda McTiernan came powering up the field, and hit the ball over from a good distance. Composed passing by Paul Finnerty, Donal Finneran and Patrick Farrell gave Augustine Clarke the opportunity to pop another one over. Ballisodare took two scores again in succession, one of these punched over the bar by Declan Kiely, an excellent save. Substitute Keith Farry proved his worth when good play from himself and Martin Devaney gave Augustine Clarke a clear path to goal, where he buried it in the back of the net. Enda McTiernan continued the trend of defenders scoring, and blasted another one over the bar from long distance. Paul Kelly finished the scoring for both teams when he took a well-deserved and well-worked point. It was a dominant display from St. Pats with their defenders scoring 2-6 of their total scores, and a good finish to the season. Good performances came from Augustine Clarke, the games top scorer with 2-3, Paul Kelly and Enda McTiernan. Having won their first game against Owenmore Gaels, this was a must win game if they wanted to progress in the competition. After a nervy start the St Pats girls settled down and raced into a 3 point lead. Tubbercurry however also settled and got them selves back into game with 2 well taken points from distance. The hard working Emma Kevany, Anne Martin and Aisling Mooney kept St Pats ahead to the break. The second half saw St Pats extend their lead with 2 well taken points from their forwards Michella Mahon and Aisling Giblin. Tubbercurry did come back and were rewarded with a goal to narrow the margin. Late into the second half Aisling Mooney split the Tubbercurry defense to blast the ball into the Tubbercurry net. St Pats went on to win by 5 points putting them in a strong position going into their final game. Well done to the entire team who all gave a great team performance to seal the victory.
