Drumcliffe/Rosses Point club notes

July 13, 2020

The season continues to crank up a gear and - from this weekend - the club fixtures will be coming thick and fast. Here’s a quick summary of some of them:

Our senior men’s footballers play their first competitive game of the new season on Sunday afternoon (July 19th) when they host Castleconnor at Oxfield in the quarter-final of the Benson Cup at 2pm. The team’s opening senior championship match is on Saturday week (July 25th) when they play Tubbercurry in Collooney at 7pm.

Our women’s intermediate footballers begin their Connacht Gold Championship on Sunday, July 26th, with a home game against Eastern Harps. There are five teams in this year’s intermediate championship, which will be played on a round-robin basis.

The girls minor footballers begin their ‘A’ championship campaign against Eoghan Rua on July 28th. Our boys minor footballers will begin their Minor ‘B’ football championship on Wednesday, July 22nd with a home game against Coolera/Strandhill at 6:30pm.

Benbulben Gaels under-16 hurlers play Coolera/Strandhill on Monday evening (July 20th)in Ransboro in the opening round of the championship. Throw-in is at 6:30pm.

The boys under-12 footballers have their first match of the season on Tuesday, July 21st, when they make the journey to Easkey. The games for both our under 12 boys teams will throw-on at half-past-six.

The club has decided not to hold the Oxfield Cúl Camp this summer. Given the popularity of this camp each year, and the current Covid return-to-play protocols, we have taken this decision in the interests of player health and safety. Rest assured there will be plenty of football for all girls and boys aged 6-13 within the club over the coming weeks and months. We will shortly be resuming coaching for under-8 and under-10 footballers. Coaches will communicate more details over the next week. Please note that other Cúl Camps in Sligo are going ahead during July and August. You’ll find details on the official Kellogg’s GAA Cúl Camp website.

We want to extend our deepest sympathy to Bernie McGee and the McGee family following the death of Bernie’s mum Peggy McGlynn.
