Sligo GAA chairman Joe Taaffe has revealed that they are edging closer to appointing a new senior football manager.

Like many counties in the country, their focus is on finding a new manager after Cathal Corey stepped down from the position following Sligo's exit from the All-Ireland qualifiers.

Although, Taaffe did not tell the Sligo Champion who was in the running for the position, he did reveal that there was a lot of interest in the job.

"We've had good interest and good numbers interested in the job," stated the chairman. "We've conducted a few interviews and have a few more to do but we hope to be very close to being in a position where we can offer the job to somebody by this weekend and announce something by the first week of next month.

"We want the best man for the job and we're hoping he does have that kind of experience at inter-county level."
