O'Neill to miss out

April 24, 2007
Seamus O'Neill looks set to miss Roscommon's NFL Division 2 final showdown with Meath at Kingspan Breffni Park on Sunday after sustaining ankle ligament damage in the semi-final win over Cavan. However, Roscommon haven't completely ruled out the big midfielder, who was forced to retire with the injury in the closing stages of last Saturday evening's clash at Croke Park. O'Neill's ankle has been put in plaster in an effort to reduce the swelling and give him a chance of making the decider. He will have the plaster removed later this week and it will only be after that when the full extent of the injury will be known. "He would be considered doubtful but we really won't know more until the medical people get to have a look at him later in the week when the plaster comes off," said Roscommon secretary Seamus Maher. Rory O'Connor replaced O'Neill on Saturday, but Karol Mannion is more likely to fill in on Sunday, with John Tiernan in line for a recall in attack.
