Roscommon SHC final: g-eight day for Four Roads

October 17, 2015

Four Roads' David Dolan

Four Roads 0-17

Padraig Pearses 1-11

Four Roads completed a remarkable eight-in-a-row of Mickey Cunniffe Cup successes when trumping Padraig Pearses in today's replay at Athleague.

Trailing by 0-8 to 1-6 at half-time, the holders took the lead for the first time in the 40th minute and finished the stronger against their Woodmount-based opponents, who will be hoping for better luck in tomorrow's football final against Clann na nGael.

The sides were level six times before Adam Finnerty scored the only goal in the 28th minute. But Four Roads got two points back to trail by the minimum at the halfway stage.

JP Dolan extended the challengers' lead on the resumption before three unanswered points from Jamie Lawlor and David Dolan (two) put Four Roads ahead. Michael Kelly ('65) and Tomas Seale (free) traded points to leave one in it with nine minutes to go.

There was a further exchange of scores between Adam Finnerty and Jamie Lawlor before the champions added two late efforts to retain their crown.
