John Evans admits Roscommon were stung by the criticism they received in the wake of their shock Connacht SFC semi-final loss to Sligo.

The Rossies bounced back with an impressive 3-17 to 1-16 victory over Cavan which earns them an All-Ireland qualifier Round 3A date with Fermanagh.

"Some of the silly stuff that was going on there would hurt anybody," the Roscommon manager said in the Irish News.

"We're not made of stone, it really, really hurt the tea. The s***e that went on was stupid. How could you knock these young fellas? That's really what drove us on because our critics came out of the long grass with their long knives and they thought they would put us a way - you don't put us away.

"We put it all into one bucket today and decided we'd fire it back at our critics and knockers that are out there.

"They were motivational for us during the last two weeks, but what a bunch of lads. They really want to play football and I'd settle for 3-17 any day you come up to Cavan."
