Roscommon emergence as a gaelic football force to be reckoned with continues unabated and manager John Evans is keen to deflect the praise on to his players.

The Kerry man has guided the Rossies from Division 3 to Division 1 and, following yesterday's 2-13 to 0-12 victory over Westmeath, he remarked to The Irish Independent: "It was a test of character more than anything else.

"We had ten wides in the first half. It took a bit of needlework to get everything right.

"Again, I emphasised to everybody, this was a team effort.

"They're a wonderful bunch of lads and they've improved from day to day.

"I suppose at the end there we won it easy, but we had some searching tests in the second half."
