May 17, 2012
Connacht GAA saw a huge response from across the Province to 'Jersey Day'. Over 20,000 children took part in the initiative with entries returned from almost 200 schools. The standard of entry was very high with excellent photos taken of the many imaginative projects undertaken by the schools.
Belclare NS, Galway and Roxboro NS, Roscommon were selected as the winners of the Connacht GAA Jersey day from their respective counties. Each school will receive 55 tickets for Sunday's match in Hyde park, coaching resources and equipment as part of their winning prize.
Belclare NS from Galway was selected as the Galway winners following their successful Jersey day project. All pupils in the school were involved on the day as they displayed the colours of Galway and their local club, Corofin. The pupils will be in full voice on Sunday in the Hyde as their teacher, Gary Sice, is a member of the Galway Senior Football team. Mattie Gilroy, Connacht GAA, Tom McManus, Games Manager, Galway, and County players Damien Burke and Kieran McGrath, Alan Burke, and Greg Higgins will be attending the school tomorrow, Friday 18th May, at 2pm to present their prizes.
In Roscommon, Primrose and Blue was the order of the day in Roxboro NS as all the pupils in the school displayed their County Colours.
