Pearses Notes

Ladies Football AGM
A well attended ladies AGM took place in the club on Friday night 3rd February. A review of 2011 noted that our U12, U14 & U16 teams all contested finals and while we were not successful in these there is no doubt that the hard work being done at U8's U10's is beginning to come through. In addition our minor team took part in Division 1 for the first time in over ten years. All officer posts with the exception of chairperson were filled as were all team management positions. In 2012 it is hoped that we will be introducing "Gaelic for Mums", a novel initiave by the ladies GAA to encourage more female participation in the sport. More details will be provided on this in due course. In addition it was agreed to introduce a player roster which will result in more interaction between our senior players and the coaching of our underage players.
Suck Valley League
There was a double header in the Suck Valley Hurling Tournament at Pairc an Phiarsaigh last Sunday, Both the Pearses Minor and Under14 squads took on the near Ballyhaunis team of Toureen. The Games were played in very poor hurling conditions with the main pitch closed for drainage work and the recent weather has done little to protect the second Pitch. The Minors had a very tight game against Toureen, who enjoyed a small advantage at the half time break. Pearses Minors finished the stronger with a goal and a point in the last 10 minutes to earn a well deserved draw. However the under 14 were not so lucky against a very talented Toureen squad. Toureen got a brace of goals in the first half of the under 14 game and although Pearses came back somewhat in the second half it was not enough and Toureen took the win comfortably.
