Crunch time in SFC
August 05, 2010
There are four county senior football championship games downs for decision this weekend with quarter-final places up for grabs.
On Saturday, a winner takes all clash takes place in Group A between St Brigid's and Padraig Pearses as the two south Roscommon outfits battle it out in a bid to join Castlerea St Kevin's in the last eight. With home advantage, St Brigid's could be the team to back, but Pearses will look to up their performance after being unlucky in defeat to Castlerea (throw-in 7.00pm).
At the same time, it's a clash of the Gaels as last year's beaten finalists Western Gaels meet Roscommon Gaels. The Westerners need to overcome their opponents by five points in order to progress, which could make it difficult for Roscommon Gaels to keep them at bay.
On Sunday, the day's first game throws in at 2.00pm when the hosts St Faithleach's take on St Croan's, with a win for the former meaning that Kilbride could go out of the championship depending on score difference. Having lost their first game, St Faithleach's should do the business and avoid an upset at the hands of Croan's.
In Group C, Donie Shine will look to once again inspire Clan na n Gael against Kilmore and if the latter don't keep their discipline at the back the likelihood is that the Rossies sharpshooter will punish them when the two teams meet at 6.30pm.
