Future is bright for Rossies, says O'Donnell
August 05, 2010
Fergal O'Donnell has stated that this current Roscommon team have a bright future ahead of them after Sunday's 1-16 to 1-10 defeat to Cork.
While the Rossies boss admitted after the game at Croke Park that their opponents were by and far the better team, he also pointed out that time is on his team's side as they look to build on a first Connacht SFC success in nine years.
"There was a fair gulf in the end but if Roscommon keep working hard I think things will get better in the next three years," O'Donnell told the Roscommon Herald.
"A lot of guys are playing Under 21 and Sigerson. It's very hard for young fellas who have got so much on and it's a long season.
"We'd be hoping that as the age profile moves up, and the likes of Donie Shine hits 23 and Cathal Cregg 24, we'll have a better team. There has been a lot of turnover of players the last few years. If we can get a steady team and move on, and try and up the age profile I think there is good hope for the lads."
As for his own future with the team, O'Donnell is though to be "considering all options", while the Roscommon county board have stated that they would "leave no stone unturned" to have the Boyle-based Garda back at the helm in 2011.
