Rossies aim to develop late-comers

February 18, 2010
Roscommon County Board chairman Michael McGuire has revealed that they are in the process of organising an end of season competition for players not involved with any county team.

There is a general concern within the county that players over 21 do not get a fair chance at county level, even if they are in excellent form for their clubs.

A structure will be put in place where players will be given the opportunity to impress the county management team, which is not unlike a trial match situation.

"There is no facility to bring in lads who are playing well for their clubs at the moment," said McGuire. "We are conscious that there is no outlet for players over 21 who may have come into good form.

"However, the county board is hoping to start a competition in October or November for all players not involved in county panels. Hopefully, this will catch players in good form with a view to developing them."
