Wynne pleased with competition for places
July 02, 2009
Roscommon minor boss Gary Wynne has said he is delighted with the current satiation in his panel, where players are fighting for their starting places.
The Rossies gave Leitrim a 17-point drubbing last Saturday to book their place into this year's Connacht MFC final, which saw four out of the five of Wynne's substitutes get on the scoresheet.
"A good few lads came off the bench and did well in the forward line. They made a contribution to the scoreboard and that's a good thing going into a Connacht final," said Wynne. "There's healthy competition for places among the lads and I encourage that. It makes our job more difficult but that's the way we want it.
"It shows that a high standard of football is being developed in our county. We're getting to a certain level. Obviously I'd like to get to the nest level but there is a consistency and Roscommon are now developing a number of fine footballers.
"The lads have worked very hard on their fitness under the guidance of Damien Martin. It's part of a player's development. You have to be well conditioned at this level if you want to go on and play senior football," he added.
Wynne's charges are now just 70 minutes away from handing their county a fourth minor provincial title in five years, with last year's All-Ireland finalists, Mayo standing in their way.
