Kelly to appeal six-month ban

December 09, 2005
Recently appointed Offaly hurling selector Joachim Kelly is to appeal a six-month suspension handed down to him by the Westmeath county board. Kelly was suspended following an incident at the recent Westmeath senior hurling final when he was involved in a minor altercation with well-known referee Barry Kelly, who was acting as a linesman. The former Offaly midfielder, who has managed Westmeath and Wexford in the past, was involved in a coaching capacity with Lough Lene Gaels who were well beaten in the replay by arch rivals Castlepollard. Kelly, who faces the prospect of missing Offaly's entire National League campaign, is expected to appeal the Westmeath county board decision's to the Leinster Council and perhaps even the Disputes Resolution Authority.
