Having recovered from a broken leg that ended his season last year, Birr's Paul Cleary is looking forward to Sunday's county SHC final more than most.

Birr take on St Rynagh's in the county final in what should be an eagerly awaited game between two of the top sides in the county down through the years.

Cleary admitted to the Midland Tribune that it was great to be back preparing for a county final, having struggled to watch from the sidelines last year, although he did manage Lusmagh to an Offaly IHC title.

"I am feeling good thank god. Rehab and recovery has gone well and I suppose if you had of told me this time last year that I would be preparing for a county final this year, I would have laughed at you," said Cleary.

"It was the end of August last year that I broke it. I didn't see the field for a while after that. I watched the lads in the quarterfinal and semi-final last year. It was hard looking at it from the line but having that good run with Lusmagh kept me going."
