Intermediate Semi Final

There was fierce disappointment for the Intermediate team as they lost to a well drilled Shannonbridge team in O'Connor Park Tullamore on Friday last in the intermediate semi-final. There was no doubt that Shannonbridge were deserved winners on the night and will face Bracknagh in the intermediate decider in two weeks time. The lads will be very disappointed as they didn't play as we know they can and didn't get a chance to express themselves. Shannonbridge played with the benefit of a gale force wind in the first half blowing down towards the town end and with a rain sodden pitch and heavy showers overhead it made for tricky playing conditions. Shannonbridge settled to the task very quickly and adapted to the conditions much better. Their quick direct style of football causing problems all over the field. They raced into a 0-2 to 0-0 score lead within 10 minutes. Daingean seemed lethargic and the ball handling skills were not where they should have been, causing many spills and turnovers. On one such occasion the ball was spilled and quickly fed into the Daingean penalty box resulting in a penalty which was dispatched with ease. This put the Bridge into a commanding 1-2 to 0-0 score lead after 15 minutes. Daingean did rally to record a couple of Jamie Hayes points but the play was not as free flowing as we had seen throughout the year. The Bridge nudged further ahead as their shot taking and selection was very accurate. Their point taking from 50 yards was unerring in its accuracy and gave the Bridge a well-deserved 1-07 to 0-04 half time lead. Whatever was said to the Daingean lads at half time had a serious impact as the lads raced back into the game. 5 points were rattled off in a row and brought the game back to 1 point game and it looked for all ends that we would overhaul the Bridge and take the lead. However a soft free broke the Daingean momentum and then the Bridge lads struck the killer blow rattling the back of the net with a well worked goal. This sucker punch took the life from Daingean and with Daingean chasing the game and taking chances to push on the Bridge rattled the net once more to finish the game as a contest. The lads battled to the end but it just wasn't to be Daingean's day. The final score of 3-13 to 0-11 was a little harsh on the lads but no doubt Shannonbridge deserved their win and we wish them the best of luck in the final. Huge thanks to all the players and mentors for their effort and commitment during the year. In particular a word of thanks to John Kenny and his selectors who worked tirelessly during the year. We have the Winter to lick our wounds but we know the lads will be back more determined than ever to put in a serious challenge next year
