Croke Park has taken over the €2 million debt on O'Connor Park.

The news comes after it emerged earlier this year that the Offaly county board was struggling to meet its repayments on the redeveloped county grounds. Croke Park has obtained a write down from Ulster Bank and is now owed €1,967,327 by Offaly GAA. According to this week's Tullamore Tribune, Faithful County chiefs have presented proposals to pay off the huge figure over a 17-and-a-half year period.

Contrary to speculation, Offaly has not had to look for a bailout from the National Finance Committee to pay off creditors. The county board will pay interest-only payments until the end of August, but is facing monthly repayments of €8,585.72 thereafter.

At a specially-convened meeting last week, club officers were informed that money owed to creditors has been reduced from a high of €455,602 to a much more manageable €159,554.
