Goals in either half from Jack Guiney and Podge Doran helped Wexford claim a 2-15 to 0-12 victory over 14-man Offaly at Tullamore.

As both these sides had won their openers, this was a shoot-out to see who would move to the top of the division and it was Liam Dunne's men who were in charge for most of the match, although the hosts made them battle hard for the win.

With six minutes left, Dooley's eighth point of the afternoon left just a goal between the sides, 1-12 to 0-12, but the visitors finished strongly with an unanswered 1-3.

The Model County played into the wind in the first half but Guiney's goal assured them of a 1-8 to 0-7 half-time lead. That three-pointer made it 1-5 to 0-4 and followed the same player's 20th-minute free which had propelled his side into the lead for the first time.

Cillian Kelly's straight red card in the fourth minute of the second half certainly didn't help the Faithful County's cause and the Slaneysiders could afford the luxury of 14 second-half wides as they registered a nine-point win, with Doran firing the second goal late on.

Guiney finished the game as top scorer for the winners, with 1-3, while Liam Og McGovern landed five points. Shane Dooley accounted for two-thirds of the losers' scores.

Next up for Wexford is a top-of-the-table home clash with Limerick on March 8th.
