Offaly 'keeper facing ban

May 09, 2013
Offaly sub-goalkeeper Gavin Sheil is facing a suspension for playing for Tullamore when he was ineligible to do so.

Sheil, who is understudy to Alan Mulhall, made an appearance as a substitute for the county town side in a recent league game against Clara, despite the fact that his transfer from his home club Killeigh hadn't been granted. Tullamore chairman Fergal McKeown and secretary Jim Buckley are also facing bans for the breach of GAA rules.

Sheil's proposed transfer has since been ruled out by the Offaly Competitions Control Committee (CCC) after the address he provided - Charleville View in Tullamore - was found to be in Rahan parish, which is served by the Shamrocks club.

According to the Tullamore Tribune, last year's U21 'keeper was anxious to play senior football with Tullamore to better his prospects of making the Offaly team.
