Offaly GAA held our open night last night for media and public to come and meet the players and managers of our county teams. In a good atmosphere, Offaly hurling manager Ollie Baker welcomed the local media and give full interviews to them in the build up to Offaly's Leinster Championship opener with Wexford on June 2nd at O Connor Park. Ollie will also invite clubs and media into a training night closer to the game to give the young kids a chance to meet and see the county players train and prepare. Ollie is looking forward to the game and hopes that this weekends championship games go well and that all players come through it fresh and ready to focus on the Wexford challenge. Offaly football Manager Tom Coffey also indicated his welcome for all the local media and thanked everybody for the support he has received since taking the position 3 weeks ago. Tom and his backroom team have been working hard with the players over the last few weeks and have a challenge game with Laois tonight to mark the official opening of the new development at Mountmellick. Tom was joined by his backroom team Pat Lowry and Phil Reilly and players, Alan Mulhall, Richie Dalton, Kevin Meehan ad Ross Brady. Leinster Minor Hurling Championship Quarter Final
Laois 2-13 Offaly 2-10
A goal in the dying seconds of the Electric Ireland Leinster Minor Hurling Championship Quarter Final by Aaron Moore gave Laois their first MHC victory over Offaly since 1972. This was a tight competitive game of hurling with both sides showing the championship determination and it looked like extra time was imminent until a high lobbing ball landed on the edge of the square for Aaron Moore to send to the back of Conor Clancy's net. Offaly struggle to get into this game and Laois found themselves 1-1 to 0-0 up after 5 minutes with the goal coming from full forward Daire Quinlan. It took Offaly 19 minutes to register their first score through Dylan Murray but that brought life into the game as Laois added points through corner forward PJ Scully who had a fine game. Back came Offaly with a fine goal from Sean T O Connor and points from Cillian Kiely and Kevin Dunne kept Offaly just 2 points behind at the break. It could have been tighter had Enda Rowland not brought off a great save from a penalty struck by Cillian Kiely just before the break after Dylan Murray was fouled. At half time Laois led 1-6 to 1-4. Laois were first to register in the second half but a goal from Andrew Connolly after a superb run and effort from Kevin Dunne brought Offaly on level terms. Two pointed frees from PJ Scully dged Laois ahead again but Offaly were getting more and more on the ball and Andrew Connolly and Kevin Dunne brought Offaly back on terms and Offaly pushed ahead through a monster free from Cillian Kiely. Laois brought the sides back level and in injury time the score board read Offaly 2-10 Laois 1-13, but the O'Moore men had the final say to win by 3 points.
