St. Rynagh's power to U21 glory
May 11, 2012
St. Rynagh's Og claimed another U21HC title when they overcame St. Brendan's on a 2-16 to 1-12 scoreline in Birr last weekend.
The Banagher/Cloghan outfit laid the foundations for their success in the opening 10 minutes when they stormed into a 1-5 to 0-0 lead. Damien Egan and Joseph O'Connor posted early points before Stephen Quirke found the net in the third minute. Quirke followed up with a brace of frees before Stephen Flannery left eight points between the sides with barely 10 minutes gone.
St. Brendan's finally opened their account through Tomas Bolger in the 12th minute and a William Gleeson goal four minutes later brought them back into contention. The Birr parish side had the margin down to three points before Damien Egan struck a second St. Rynagh's goal to give them a 2-9 to 1-6 interval lead.
Rynagh's extended their lead on the restart with points from Quirke, Sean Kenny and Joseph O'Connor before St. Brendan's reduced the leeway to six once again. Try as they might, the home side couldn't get any closer and it was left to Joseph O'Connor to apply the coup de grace for the winners with a late point.
