Alan Mulhall is hoping Ciaran McManus will accept an invitation from interim Offaly manager Tom Coffey to return to the county fold.
The 36-year-old Tubber clubman brought the curtain down on his 15-year inter-county career at the end of last season, but may return to boost the Faithful County's flagging fortunes ahead of their Leinster SFC quarter-final against Kildare on June 17.
"At the minute 'Macky' (McManus) is doing exams and I think he's trying to get them out of the way and then he's to make a decision about whether he'll come back in or not," Offaly goalkeeper and captain Alan Mulhall said to the Irish Independent at yesterday's launch of the Leinster championships.
"At the start of the year I was the oldest person on the panel. I was 29 in September. Then Alan McNamee came back. He's the oldest so you've a very young panel. We probably were lacking a bit of leadership with the likes of 'Macky' and Scott (Brady) and Slatts (Karol Slattery) after going."
Since filling the void left by Gerry Cooney, Coffey has coaxed Niall Smith, Ross Brady, Thomas Deehan and John Reynolds back onto the county panel.
