January 26, 2012
Colaiste Eoin, Athlone CC and St. Mary's, Edenderry all progressed to the quarter-finals of the Leinster Colleges SFC yesterday.

A fisted goal from Dathai O Cathamhaoil with 12 minutes remaining proved decisive for the south Dublin school who edged out Good Counsel 1-15 to 1-4 in New Ross. The home side were leading by a point when O Cathaimaoil reacted quickest to punch home after Oisin O Ruairc's initial shot had been saved.

2008 champions Athlone CC needed extra-time to get the better of Patrician, Newbridge by 1-8 to 1-6 in Newbridge. Eoin Fallon's 22nd goal helped the Westmeath side to a 1-5 to 1-3 interval lead, but three second half points from Ronan Fitzgibbon forced extra-time for the home team. However, two points from midfielder Ray Connellan in the additional period saw Athlone advance.

Meanwhile, in Edenderry, a highly-rated St. Mary's overcame Ardscoil na Trionoide from Athy on a 2-6 to 0-4 scoreline. Athy never recovered from the fourth minute dismissal of David O'Toole as goals from Ryan Caffrey and Mark Nolan sealed Edenderry's place in the last eight.
