JFC Q/Final. Killeigh 1-5: Shamrocks 1-11:
Killeigh's interest in the 2010 junior football championship ended with this 6 point loss, in Killurin last Sunday. Killeigh made the better start wpoint from Darragh O'Brien in the first minute, but failed to put away the chances to increase their lead. This proved very costly, as Shamrocks scored a goal in their first attack, quickly adding 3 points to lead 1-3 to 0-1. Killeigh's next score was a Darragh O'Brien goal, when he squeezed the ball home from a tight angle. Shamrocks replied with 3 points to lead by 1-6 to 1-1 at half time.
Killeigh had a difficult but not impossible task when they returned in the second half, but it was Shamrocks who got the next 2 points.
Darragh O'Brien kept Killeigh in touch with points, but Shamrocks continued to dominate, stretching their lead with points.
Sub Gary O'Rourke raised a white flag for Killeigh, but they couldn't rein in Shamrocks who were still ahead when referee Martin Walsh blew the final whistle.
So a year which began with a victory over Edenderry, on wet Monday night in May, ends at the end of August.
The footballers swapped the big ball for the sliotar, when they travelled west to face St. Rynagh's in Banagher on September 1st.
JHC Killeigh 1-10; St Rynagh's 1-8.
A great display by Killeigh in Banagher on Wednesday night, when they defeated the home side by 2 points in a close game. Killeigh might have won by a wider margin, if they had taken all their chances.
Despite a bad start when they were conceded 1-1in the opening few minutes, Killeigh then scored 6 points to 4 for the home team, which left them behind 1-5 to 0-6 at half time. Killeigh had a penalty saved just before half time, and missed a few other opportunities as the half continued.
After the interval, Killeigh got a grip on the game, scoring 2 points to 1 from the home side. The decisive score came in the form of a goal from Padraig Horan, set up by Alan Plunkett. This left Killeigh ahead by 1-7 to 1-5, and they went 3 points ahead, before St Ryangh's scored a point after 20 minutes, to leave 2 points between the sides. An exchange of points put Killeigh ahead by 1-9 to 1-8, in the last few minutes, and they closed matters with a late point, to win by 2 points.
Killeigh saw chances for goals and points wasted in their spell of dominance, but Killeigh supporters were glad that Rynagh's left their scoring boots at home on occasions.
This was a great team display in the second half, as they outscored the hosts by 1-4 to 0-3.
Another important game is lined up on Saturday, in Kilcormac V Kilcormac/Killoughey. Killeigh must win to have a chance of qualifying for the knock out stages of the championship.
