DIVISION 3 HURLING LEAGUE
Raheen Hurlers who are making their debut in Division 3 of the hurling league following their success in winning Div 4 last year, while a little disappointed not to win will be quite satisfied to draw their opening league fixture against Edenderry in Edenderry last Saturday evening on a scoreline of 0-08 to 0-08. Edenderry were first off the mark with a pointed free in the fourth minute. Raheen had to wait until the 11th minute to open their account but it was well worth the wait as Jason Hassett sent a line ball on the half way line straight over the bar. Over the next 10 minutes Edenderry re-took the lead with 2 points without reply. In the 23rd minute Raheen got their second point when Jason Hassett converted a 30m free. This is how it remained up to half time as Edenerry led at the break by 0-03 to 0-02. Raheen wasted no time in drawing level with a point inside the first minute of the second half when Michael James Pierce picked up the ball just inside his own half and took off weaving his way around a number of defenders before shooting over from around 30m out. Over the next 15 minutes Raheen built up what was hoped would be a commanding lead by firing over 4 points in a row from Jason Hassett(2), Paddy Rigney and Cathal Maher. Edenderry had to wait until the 19th minute to open their second half account but then followed it with 4 more points over the next 5 minutes which saw them go back in front. Then in the last minute of normal time Raheen were awarded a free about 30m out in front of the posts which Jason Hassett coolly shot over to draw level and this is how it remained when the full time whistle was blown less than a minute later.
